Australian Gr2 Score For Canford Cliffs

Save The Date - 25 May

With Highlands-Ridgemont having just issued a ‘Save The Date’ for 25 May for their Stallion Parade evening at the famous stud in Robertson, another Gr2 success for leading Canford Cliffs 3yo Cliff’s Edge in the Gr2 Alister Clark Stakes at Moonee Valley on Friday was timely reminder of some golden and varied opportunities avaiilable to breeders here.

Canford Cliffs in action

Cliff’s Edge is a son of Canford Cliffs, an exceptional racer who won five Gr1 races in a row, in the best of company.

Canford Cliffs will make a public appearance at the Stallion Parade in advance of his first season here, alongside fellow newbie Rafeef, and the established team of Dynasty, Pathfork, Potala Palace and Jackson.

The magnficent Canford Cliffs

His smart son Cliff’s Edge bounced back terrifically from his unplaced effort in the Australian Guineas two weeks ago, where after setting a hot gallop, including running a slick 10.76 seconds from the 1400m to the 1200m mark, he had faded late.

But well-backed on Friday, he led all the way and kicked clear to win the 2040m Gr2 contest under Jamie Mott with authority.

Trainer Darren Weir said he was uncertain whether Cliff’s Edge would head to Sydney for the Rosehill Guineas and/or the Australian Derby.

“I don’t know,” Weir told broadcaster racing.com. “It’s a good problem to have,” he added.
