Candice’ New Season Best

The season's not over yet!

When Aeneas powered to victory under Keagan de Melo in the fifth race at Kenilworth on Monday, the son of Vercingetorix set a new career benchmark for Milnerton trainer Candice Bass-Robinson, being her 105th winner of the season.

The Durban July winning lady trainer achieved 104 winners last term and the powerful yard are well on their way to building substantially on the number with their current 15,17% win strike-rate and 25 days left of the current season.

On Wednesday last week, Candice Bass-Robinson enjoyed her first five-timer, with stable jockey Aldo Domeyer booting four winners home and Greg Cheyne the other.

The yard reportedly has some nice up-and-coming soon to be 3yo’s, including the likes of Who Do You Love, Charles Dickens and Le Mans (whose victory on Monday equalled the existing 104 winner winner mark) to name a few.

The stable has also  enjoyed feature success this year,  with the likes of Fireally, Amanzimtoti and Trip Of Fortune.

“Unfortunately a Gr1 has eluded us this season but the season is not over yet and we are always positive!” Candice told the Sporting Post.

One of their established stars, Marina, who was probably a bit unlucky not to crack the nod for the Hollywoodbets Durban July final 18 ran a cracker in the Brentford FC Gr1 Garden Province Stakes over a distance short of her best, when she flew late for second behind She’s A Keeper on Saturday.

She Will be nominated for the Gr2 Gold Bracelet on Marshalls Gold Cup day.
