Futura Park-based trainer Brett Crawford hit top form at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Wednesday when he saddled a fabulous 5 winners on the tricky eight-race card.

After a competitive World Sports Betting Cape Town Met day at the same venue on Saturday, where At My Command was a popular winner as he overcame a frustrating run of top level places to win a Cape A Stakes contest, the Hollywoodbets-sponsored conditioner enjoyed a dream day on a humid Wednesday afternoon with five winners, ridden by three different jockeys.

Crawford, who also maintains a Highveld satellite yard run by his son James at Randjesfontein,  has maintained a top four position on the national championship log marginally ahead of Mike de Kock and Tony Peter, and on this form will be hoping to end the Cape Summer Of Champions Season on a high on 24 February, before the spotlight shifts to the East Coast.

The first of the Crawford winners arrived in the third, when the athletic Vercingetorix colt Join The Dots (10-1) shed his maiden at his second start under a beautifully balanced ride by Louis Mxothwa, who was riding his first ever winner as a Sporting Post-sponsored jockey.

Mxothwa was back in the mix in the fifth, when he gave a display of power riding to keep Big Unit (9-2) going and beat the close chaser Oliver, and the uber-consistent Incredibill.

It was Crawford Racing again in the sixth, this time with a terrific trifecta, as Richard Fourie produced Zil Morris (9-2) late to collar stablemates Future Prince and Allez Moris.

Grand Bay (6-1) is bred to be a classic horse, but he is all speed and the son of Silvano caught the eye under Craig Zackey when registering his second career win with a show of speed in the eighth.

Big ticket purchase The Abdicator (9-2) showed a lot of speed to close off the meeting under Winning Form sponsored jockey Richard Fourie, and make it five winners for the Brett Crawford Racing Team.

A big buyer at last week’s CRS Cape Premier Yearling Sale, Mauritian owner Mukund Gujadhur has interests in four of the five, so he will be smiling too.

The Pick 6 paid a healthy R291 820.

The next Cape racemeeting is at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Tuesday 6 February.
