Mike’s Cape sale topper was Lot 31, a half sister to Victoriana (trained by Bass), by Trippi, bought for R360 000 for Shirtliff, Ressell and Jooste. Bass was particularly pleased with his purchase of lot 207 from the Equimark Vintage Sale, a very smart grey Silvano colt out of Palace Bride and a half brother to the Dubai winner Silver Mist and Shades Of Indigo.

The sale’s roll-of-honour includes the likes of Victory Moon, Crimson Palace, Trademark, Bunter Barlow, Sun Classique and too many others to mention who have scaled the heights both at home and abroad. The 2011 sale will take place at Durbanville racecourse on Saturday 5th March (18h30 start) and Sunday 6th March (11h00 start), with 288 yearlings on offer.

The ever popular Shongweni Ready To Run and Horses In Training Sale will be held at the Shongweni Polo Grounds in KZN on Wednesday 23rd February. As always run under the auspices of Michael Holmes Bloodstock, the sale commences at 10.30 a.m. and features 200 entries, no fewer of them 95 unraced two-year-olds.
