Brandon Lerena – on way home

Ricky Maingard’s stable jockey Brandon Lerena will soon be winging his way home from Mauritius after requesting an early release from his contract.

Lerena, the cousin of soon-to-be-crowned SA champion rider Gavin Lerena, heads the jockey log with 20 winners (a win strike rate of 21,3%) with his countryman and latest Hall Of Famer, Derreck David.

He will ride in his last meeting on 8 August.

Lerena will appeal a one day suspension and a fine of Rs 25,000 imposed for careless riding on Elusive Love in the 3rd race at the Champ de Mars last Saturday.
