Botha’s Baratheon Can Go One Better Today

First due off @ 12h05

The first meeting on today’s local double-header gets underway at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth with Race 1 carded for 12h05.

Aldo Domeyer has seven rides booked for Trainer Candice Bass-Robinson and the combination have a few decent winning chances on the day’s ten-race programme.

Trainer Piet Botha sends out Baratheon in Race 7. He is better than his last start in the WSB Gr1 Cape Town Met.

He was not disgraced in his previous two efforts over 1800m. The 6yo gelding has won over this distance previously.

Sporting Post-sponsored Jockey Luyolo Mxothwa is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him.

Indigenous from the Justin Snaith stable takes his place in Race 2. He produced a promising debut effort over 1000m on this course.

He lost a length leaving the start, understandably raced green but the way he stayed on at the finish was encouraging.

The son of Danon Platina would have gained from the experience and should love the rise to 1200m. With the natural improvement that is expected, he should take a power of beating.

The Aga Khan – A Man Of Great Influence

With the Aga Khan’s breeding and racing programme very much geared towards the classics, it can be argued that South Africa, where speed, rather than stamina is the hallmark of its racing programme, has failed to capitalise on the excellence of especially its female families
