Mike de Kock has four runners at the second 2019 Dubai World Cup Carnival meeting at Meydan this evening.
Here are his comments.
Race 3: Faith and Fortune (ARG), 1600m dirt
“Faith and Fortune is twice an easy winner on dirt in Argentina, but the dirt tracks there are completely different to the one at Meydan so we can’t draw a parallel. He’s a horse that hasn’t shown us much in work, but he’s done what he’s had to do. The race will teach us more about him.”
Race 4: Mujaafy (AUS), 1200m turf
Has been scratched
Race 5: Light The Lights (SAF), 1900m dirt
“He ran a fair race after a rest on turf last week but will battle to be competitive on turf off his 111 rating, so we’re switching him to dirt for the first time. We really can’t predict how he will run, this is entirely experimental. His sire Western Winter was an exclusive sand horse and produced a few that performed on sand, but that’s about all we can go on.”
Race 7: Baroot (GB) and Bold Rex (SAF) 1600m turf
“Baroot is a game performer, but he takes a jump in class here and will improve with the run. Bold Rex is doing very well. He had three poor runs at last year’s Carnival, but you can draw a line through that, he is a different horse this year. We’ll be looking for a good run to start off, but he will come on with the run.”
