The very speedy Gr2 SA Nursery winner Basadi Faith collapsed and died during the running of the Gr2 Senor Santa Stakes at Turffontein on Saturday.

Sporting Post readers have enquired as to what happened after the tragic sight of her falling during running marred a classic sprint encounter.

The Stipes reported that at approximately the 400m Apprentice Jeff Syster attempted to ease Basadi Faith out of the race.Thereafter she ducked in sharply, collapsed and dislodged Apprentice Syster.

A post-mortem will be conducted.

One of the top young speed fillies of last season, Basadi Faith won her first four on the trot, culminating in the Gr2 SA Nursery.

She suffered her first defeat in the Gr1 Allan Robertson Championship last season and was found to have suffered an epistaxis. In terms of Rule 93.1 she was suspended for 60 days.

She was given a seven month rest and reappeared on the racecourse in December last year.
