Avontuur’s Anthony Accelerates

Fortune rides 7 at Turffontein today

A terrific winning burst of eight winners over four days at four different venues has seen the Avontuur-sponsored Anthony Delpech replace the hard-working longstanding pacesetter Andrew Fortune at the top of the SA National jockey standings.

The 46 year old Delpech, who graduated from the SA Jockey Academy in 1987, won his first SA championship in the 1998/9 season and is riding better than ever.

While the man they call ‘Bonji’ is first call rider to Mike De Kock, he has formed a sizzling partnership with Dean Kannemeyer in KZN – and it was his winning treble last Friday evening at Greyville for the Cape yard that kick-started his purple patch.

He also won on Mooghamir at Kenilworth on Saturday, before registering doubles at Scottsville on Sunday and the Vaal on Tuesday.

Delpech does not ride at Turffontein today but Fortune has 7 rides and he will be keen to make up the leeway.

What makes you so angry that you don’t care what you are doing to our shaky industry? How do you deal with this in your inner, quiet self?’
