Var Is Hot, Hot, Hot!

Three good winners

Avontuur’s leading resident sire Var had another memorable weekend when the lightning fast son of Forest Wildcat was represented by three more winners.

Var’s threesome was kicked off when his daughter Vargo bolted up to break her maiden by two lengths over 1000m at Turffontein on Saturday.

Baron Bellet

Just one day later, Vargo’s paternal 2yo half brother Baron Ballet became the latest Var sired juvenile to score when he won the first race at Scottsville on Sunday.

Bred by the Varsfontein Stud, the well related Baron Ballet was a R200 000 buy from last year’s National 2YO Sale.

Baron Ballet was one of two juvenile winners for his sire on Sunday, with Var’s 2yo Very Vary winning in open company to break his maiden over 1200m.

Very Vary

Very Vary (Anton Marcus) comes home powerfully

Bred by Cheveley Stud, Very Vary (who is bred on the same Var/Complete Warrior cross as former Grade One winner Villandry) was an R850 000 buy from the inaugural Val De Vie Yearling Sale last year.

Var has had another excellent year, with his juveniles faring particularly well in 2015-2016.

Currently  South Africa’s second leading sire of two-year-olds, Var has been represented by no fewer than 22 individual juvenile winners this season, headed by Listed Ruffian Stakes winner Exquisite Touch and Gr1 SA Nursery runner up Rivarine.

The former sprint king has two lots on offer at next month’s National Two Year Old Sale in Germiston:

Lot 102 – a full sister to a winner, this filly is out of a Silvano half sister to 3 stakes winners, including Gr2 Merchants hero Royal I.Q., and she is also a three parts sister to Var’s Grade One daughter Schiffer and smart Dubai campaigner Mastermind

Lot 157 – this regally bred colt, whose dam is former Gr3 Final Fling/Gr3 Prix Du Cap winner Sunsational, is a half brother to recent Gr1 SA Fillies Classic/G2 SA Oaks winner Juxtapose and is inbred to the mighty sire Storm Cat. He is also from the same family as Var’s top class Gr2 winning son Dollar Dazzler.

The Enchanting Currency Of Fate

It is eerie to think that there would have been no Siren’s Call, Sound Of Warning, or for that matter Call To Unite, had fate not decreed that Enchanted Cove follow her dam to South Africa, and that Peter de Beyer had the foresight to return Elusive Fort back home from the States as well!
