It is all systems go this Saturday for one of the Cape’s premier racedays of the Summer Of Champions and Avontuur General Manager Pippa Mickleburgh feels that her team and Kenilworth Racing have raised the bar a few notches. The energetic and charismatic ‘Lady Var’ is a perfectionist who leaves no detail unattended.
“This is one of the great races on the SA horseracing calendar and we pride ourselves on the association. But just as we conduct our own business professionally on a day-to-day basis, so we want racegoers and our guests to enjoy a top drawer experience – and that means looking after every fine detail from branding to food and drink and engaging the right professionals to assist us,” she said.
Hands-on sponsor is the understatement of the year in this case.
The event has been months in the planning and Pippa said that betting turnover was one aspect that deserved attention.
She had thus opted to engage leading horseracing expert and form fundi Robert Bloomberg aka ‘The Ringer’ to analyse the day’s racing.
“Robert knows his stuff and he is seldom seen on Tellytrack these days. He adds value through his intimate knowledge, calls it as he sees it and whether punters and racing enthusiasts choose to agree with him or not, his presence on Saturday morning’s Under Starters Orders show live from the Kenilworth parade ring with Stan Elley will enjoy plenty of interest and get the day off to a flying start.”
In the spirit of the day’s theme as a Gr1 celebration of the talents of the fairer sex, Pippa has also enlisted the services of the veteran Gauteng fashionista Julie Alexander and the popular Nadine Rapson, who will be flown in to host the afternoon’s racing together with local lass, Vicky Minott.
Pippa added that the focus on-course would be on providing punters with plenty of great entertainment, good food and refreshment options.
“Neil Pretorius will be hosting the gig rig and hopefully tipping some serious winners for punters and visitors in front of the grandstand. The atmosphere is going to be electric and it is all about great horseracing, good fun and backing winners!” she said.
See you at Kenilworth Racecourse on Saturday.
