De Kock Ventures Into The Lion’s Den

Magic Mike Makes Malmoos Move

Mike de Kock’s unbeaten ‘real deal’ Malmoos will give the WSB Summer Cup day Dingaans a miss on his home turf as he lines up at Kenilworth on the CTS raceday on Saturday as the highest rated 3yo in the R175 000 Avontuur Estate Gr2 Concorde Cup.

The 1600m race, known as the Selangor Cup up to 2017, has produced six Cape Guineas winners in 22 years, including some serious big-hitters of the ilk of Act Of War, Variety Club, Le Drakkar Jay Peg, Express Way and Alpha Omega.

SA Champion apprentice Luke Ferraris, who was aboard at Malmoos’ stakesd success has been engaged to ride the Gr3 Graham Beck Stakes winner, who is unbeaten in three starts to date.

Grouped in the same league as his star stablemate, Mount Pleasant, Mike de Kock has previously expressed the opinion that it would be a pity for South African racing if Malmoos were to miss the Cape season and it’s great to see that the leading conditioner is venturing into the lion’s den of the strongest racing arena in South Africa.

The R4,4 million son of Captain Al races for Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum and takes on ten local challengers, from top classic yards like Vaughan Marshal, Dean Kannemeyer, Glen Kotzen, Brett Crawford and and Justin Snaith.
