The top-class In The Fast Lane wins the Fillies Guineas in 2013

Avontuur Estate have proudly announced a new charity partnership with the Peninsula School Feeding Association (PSFA) that will coincide with the annual Gr 1 Avontuur Estate Cape Fillies Guineas, which will be run at Kenilworth Racecourse on Saturday 6 December 2014.

The Cape Fillies Guineas day is one of the major race meetings on the Western Cape calendar and has always had a family-orientated theme and there are a number of side events planned.

The link-up with the well-known and respected Cape Town based charity will be mutually beneficial as not only will substantial funds be raised towards a worthy cause, but the marketing teams of Avontuur Estate, PSFA and Kenilworth Racing have worked together in proposing new ideas that will add to the day’s entertainment. This has opened the door for a long-term relationship.

Avontuur Estate and Kenilworth Racing have committed to providing PSFA with a minimum amount of R100 000. This donation will be apportioned to the feeding of children at selected underprivileged schools fed by PSFA in the Western Cape.

The distribution will have the staff and children of each school on tenterhooks as the percentage of the R100 000 they will receive will depend on the outcome of the Cape Fillies Guineas.

Every school involved will receive a cash prize, but not before much excitement is expended, as the amount of the prize will be in direct proportion to the finishing position of the horse representing them.

The draw for the horses to be allocated will be held at the Estate in Somerset West on Thursday 27 November and will be attended by the respective school principals.

Avontuur Estate’s General Manager Pippa Mickleburgh said, “The approach by the fundraising team of the PSFA came at just the right time as we were in the process of identifying a new charity beneficiary for our race day, which would result in a mutually beneficial relationship and a win-win situation for both partners. We look forward to a long and rewarding partnership with PSFA”

The Enchanting Currency Of Fate

It is eerie to think that there would have been no Siren’s Call, Sound Of Warning, or for that matter Call To Unite, had fate not decreed that Enchanted Cove follow her dam to South Africa, and that Peter de Beyer had the foresight to return Elusive Fort back home from the States as well!
