The South African stallion band looks to have an exciting addition to its ranks, following the announcement that the beautifully bred, and strikingly handsome Heavenly Blue will stand at the Ascot Stud this season.
The well performed Heavenly Blue was one of the best of his generation as a three-year-old, but unfortunately a knee chip curtailed his career.
Despite that, the handsome grey won or placed in seven of 11 outings and earned over R1.8 million, scoring his biggest win when landing the 2017 Gr1 SA Classic at the expense of high class performers as Al Sahem (SA Derby), Janoobi (Zabeel Mile) and Tilbury Fort (Summer Cup).
The Australian bred was also second in the Gr2 Dingaans and Gr3 Graham Beck Stakes and finished third in the Gr1 SA Derby and Gr2 Gauteng Guineas.
Heavenly Blue is the first son of multiple Australian champion sire Snitzel to stand in South Africa.
A son of legendary Australian sire Redoute’s Choice – whose progeny have well and truly excelled in this country – the Gr1 Oakleigh Plate winning Snitzel has already been Champion Sire twice in Australia, and Heavenly Blue is one of 13 Gr1 winners sired by him thus far.
To date Snitzel – whose most recently fee was AUS$220 000 – has been responsible for more than 80 stakes winners, with his progeny having already banked over $135 000 000!
The champion is once again leading the Australian General Sires List for 2018-2019, with Snitzel’s Australasian runners having already banked over AUS $20 000 000 this season!
His Gr1 SA Classic winning son Heavenly Blue was produced by the blue blooded mare Simply Carina, a daughter of US champion sire El Prado and multiple Gr1 winning Theatrical mare Astra.
The latter was a superb distaffer on the turf, with Astra’s trio of G1 victories including the Gamely Handicap.
This is the immediate family of US champions First Landing, Hill Prince and Cicada –to name but a few.
Heavenly Blue’s first three dams are by El Prado, Theatrical and Seattle Slew –making him well suited to a large number of the South African broodmare population.
Heavenly Blue will stand his first season for an introductory fee of R8 000.
