Marcus Misses July

Anton Marcus. Thumb problem means no hitch hiking or riding this weekend.

Jockey Anton Marcus will not ride on July Day and has been replaced on his big race engagement.

Sean Veale has picked up the ride on Hill Fifty Four for Vaughan Marshall. Veale, who recently registered a career first Gr1 win also pilots Happy Valentine for Team Valor in the Gr1 Golden Slipper.

Marcus has been plagued by an injury to his thumb and appears to have relinquished any hope of chasing Piere Strydom for the SA Jockey Championship.

There is no indication as yet as to who will ride Marcus’ other two big mounts viz Normanz in the Gr1 Golden Horseshoe and Blueridge Mountain in the Gr1 Garden Province Stakes.

These horses are two key considerations in all betting equations and it is hoped that the connections will enter into the spirit of the occasion and declare their jockeys without further undue delay.
