Unprecedented spell of inclement weather

In a devastating blow for South African horseracing, the Hollywoodbets Scottsville racemeeting scheduled for Sunday has now been abandoned.

That’s the fifth local meeting lost in eight days. Three races were abandoned of the eight carded at Fairview on Friday.

Gold Circle Racing Executive Raf Sheik said that steady rain has fallen over the past few days and the penetrometer reading was 32 (some areas as high as 36) on the inside course, with a 29 reading on the standside.

It was still raining on Saturday afternoon, with more downfalls expected.

Sheik said that a meeting would be added on Sunday 26 February at the same venue.
