The horse-crazy Ridgemont Highlands’ Amanda Carey and her former Gr3 Lonsdale Stirrup Cup winner Balance Sheet have formed a winning partnership in the showing arena.
The duo won the Ridgemont-Highlands sponsored Racehorse To Working Hunter class at the Western Cape Showing Championships held at Mistico in Paarl over the weekend.
A passionate animal lover who used to babysit baboons and chimpanzees in between riding work for the late Pat O’Neill in her matric year, Amanda, a former Western Province junior showjumper, was thrilled about the big win for her new favourite baby, ‘Bally’.
Balance Sheet was bred by Riyo Stud and is a son of Silvano out of the unraced Al Mufti mare Vita-Louise. He was purchased for R300 000 at the National Yearling and raced for leading Cape-based owners Marsh Shirtliff and Bryn Ressell.
The now 8yo gelding was trained by Dean Kannemeyer for his 4 wins from 1600m to 2400m from his 18 starts. He celebrates his birthday on 2 October.
