Owner Bryn Ressell is a man who puts his money where his mouth is. The rugby and racing fanatic has come to the party for the third year running as sponsor of the R300 000 Calulo Services Gr2 Premier Trophy to be run at Kenilworth on Saturday. The group will also be sponsoring the Gr3 Victress Stakes.
The famous Ham-iltons Rugby club racing silks of Bryn Ressell will be worn by Gifted For Glory and Paterfamilias in the Premier Trophy, and by the fancied Hammie’s Hooker in the Victress Stakes. Ressell is Calulo Invest-ments Director and CEO of Calulo Services, and has been involved in the Oil Industry for the past 15 years.
He is responsible for the Trading and Shipping divisions within the Calulo Group. Calulo is a proudly African investment house with meaningful and complementary interests in a range of sound business entities, primarily in the petroleum and chemicals, and related service sectors.
They strive to participate positively and actively in the management strategic trajectory of their investing entities, with the intention of leveraging growth and generating strong and consistent returns. They build businesses allied to their investments through the development of sound working relationships with partners of distinction.
The sponsors of the Gr3 Victress Stakes are Unical, a 50/50 joint venture between Calulo Services and Unicorn Shipping that aims to develop and strengthen the Southern African shipping market.
The two arms of the joint venture are Unical Bunkering Services, which owns and operates three bunker tankers in two South African ports, delivering bunker fuels to the maritime industry, as well as Unical Shipping offers shipping services along the Southern African coast, operating its own time chartered and other managed tankers to service the Shipping requirements of the various Oil Majors and other local Charterers.
This partnership brings together one of South Africa’s oldest shipping companies, Unicorn which turned 75 in 2009, with new emerging operator Calulo Services, an empowered Shipping and Logistics services group that has enjoyed substantial growth since its formation 5 years ago.
Ressell said that they were looking forward to the racing on Saturday, but as a mark of respect and in deference to the passing of Nelson Mandela, celebrations on the day would be confined to hosting 200 VIP guests.
