A Magic Victory For Miss Roumbini In Fillies & Mares

This 4yo will continue to build her CV

A roller-coaster week on the Gold Coast culminated with a satisfying win for Victorian horseman Mick Price, whose emerging filly Miss Roumbini landed the rich prize in Friday’s A$1 million TAB Magic Millions Fillies and Mares.

Price, with co-trainer Michael Kent Jnr, was involved in the purchase of 16 yearlings in Book 1 of the 2025 Magic Millions Yearling Sale but was then forced to watch on as his exciting colt Space Rider twice missed a start as first emergency in the A$3 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic – once last Saturday before the race meeting was called off and then again on Friday’s rescheduled program.

Earlier on Friday’s card, another Price-trained filly, Charm Stone, was runner-up in the A$1 million Magic Millions Cup.

But Miss Roumbini, who was well-backed to start a clear favourite, ensured the trainer wouldn’t leave the city empty-handed with a comfortable win over Bubba’s Bay and Russian Alliance.

The daughter of Zoustar, who was a A$550,000 purchase with ARJB Racing from the Yulong draft at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, settled midfield with cover before being asked to quicken as the field turned into the straight.

Price said the four-year-old can continue to build her CV, which currently stands at five wins and more than A$1 million in prizemoney and bonuses.

“He was very confident my boy, Ethan Brown, and how he rode her was how he told me he would ride her,” Price said. “She’s gutsy, isn’t she? We’ve had her since she was a yearling, bred by Yulong and she’s taken a bit of time, but she’ll be a beautiful mare in time.”

For Brown, it was a maiden win on the Magic Millions program and he said he was delighted to do it aboard a mare that he’s now won four races on from only six rides.

“It’s my first time riding up here for the Magic Millions Carnival and I’ve got some great support of Mick Price and I’m just delighted to repay him with a winner,” Brown said.

“She’s a beauty this horse. She’s got such a big heart and she tried hard. She absorbed a lot of pressure then and I’m lucky she’s genuine and knows where the line it.

“She landed in a lovely spot from a good gate, but I did look up and think they had us off the bit a long way out but, as I said, she’s got a big heart and she pinned her ears back and had a crack.”
