The countdown to the World Sports Betting Cape Town Met raceday, a World Pool event, to be held at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on 27 January, continued on Friday with 275 entries on the table.
While 11 races were programmed, there is the addition of a R175 000 1200m Class 2 reserve event, which has attracted 18 entries.
World Pool is an exciting version of international commingling, combining the finest racing from around the globe with the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s betting operation, which boasts the deepest and most liquid pari-mutuel pools on the planet.
The 162nd renewal of the R2 million World Sports Betting Cape Town Met sees 27 entries still in the running for one of 20 berths in the 2000m gallop into the turf history books.
Current chart-toppers are the L’Ormarins King’s Plate 1-2 Charles Dickens and KZN champion, See It Again.
Supporting Grade 1 features on the day are the R1,5 million World Pool Cape Flying Championship (24 entries), where dual Gr1 winner Isivunguvungu bumps recent conqueror Thunderstruck, and the R1 million City Of Cape Town Majorca Stakes (16 entries), where recent dual Gr1 winning 3yo Beach Bomb could take on the likes of SA Horse Of The Year, Princess Calla, and the likes of the top-notch Make It Snappy and Mrs Geriatrix.
The R7,5 million Cape Racing Gold Rush, restricted to graduates of the 2022 CTS Cape Yearling Sale, has attracted 24 entries and is the second staging of this event, modelled on The Everest in Australia.
According to the Cape Racing Sales website, fourteen of the sixteen prospector buy-in tickets have been taken up at a buy–in of R400 000.
