A colt from the final crop of recently retired champion sire Not a Single Doubt stole the show on Day Two of the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale when he sold for A$1,7 million this afternoon.
The first foal of Gr3 winner and Oaks placegetter Miss Admiration, the colt was offered by Segenhoe Stud and after a spirited bidding battle it was Ciaron Maher who snared the top seller.
“I’m pretty excited to get him,” Maher said moments after the hammer fell. “Obviously they don’t make the Not a Single Doubts anymore with him retiring (from stud).”
“We’ve just had so much success with that breed. Given last year and the results I knew he was going to be a big price. He was going to be a colt that was on everyone’s list and I’m just rapt to be able to get him.”
“She (Miss Admiration) was a quality mare – a nice young mare. And the colt is just a great physical, good temperament – he ticks all the boxes.”
“He’s a real stallion prospect,” Maher added.
The A$1.7 million colt was one of four individual lots to sell for prices over A$1 million during another record breaking sale day at the Gold Coast.
Later in the afternoon leading Melbourne bloodstock agent Sheamus Mills went to A$1.55 million to secure the I Am Invincible filly from Najoom. The filly is a full sister to group winner Najmaty and was sold by breeder Emirates Park.
“You go into these (fillies) as an eight or ten year project,” Mills noted. “You hope they’re very fast and if they’re not you look at getting your money back in the sale ring.”
“The families that I Am Invincible has been covering over the last few years – they’re the families that everyone wants to buy into and that’s why they are making these prices.”
Mills said no decision had been made as yet as to who would train the prized filly.
“I would hope that she is a Magic Millions type of filly. We won’t have any shortage of stables wanting to take her.”
The third top seller on the day was the Zoustar-Pirapala colt from Sledmere Stud who was knocked down to the Victorian Alliance in conjunction with Rosemont Stud, Suman Hedge and David Redvers Bloodstock.
“He’s a ripping colt,” Anthony Mithen reported. “He was really, really high on our short list.”
“We’ve had some success with Zoustar already with the Victorian Alliance. He’s a horse who can get a precocious two-year-old .”
Mithen said Peter Moody would train the colt – following the proven formula of the Group Three Maribyrnong Plate winner Brereton – a Magic Millions purchased yearling colt by Zoustar.
The fourth million dollar lot of the day came earlier in the day where Sydney based bloodstock agent James Harron went to A$1.1 million to secure the I Am Invincible-Meliora colt from the Yarraman Park Stud draft.
The colt is a full brother to the former explosive youngster and exciting young Victorian stallion I Am Immortal.
“He’s got a lovely fast pedigree,” Harron pointed out. “Obviously the mare has done it with I Am Invincible and having looked at her stock over the last few years I thought he was probably the best she’d thrown.”
“He had a great attitude right through the sale and he looks a really precocious type of horse which we think can get up and run early.”
With two days of the sale completed, the gross has soared to over A$97 million and the average has climbed to over A$287,000. The clearance rate sits at an extraordinary 94 per cent.
“It’s been an outstanding market thus far,” Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch noted. “We are over A$10 million up on the same time last year and that was an all time record.”
“The average price is over A$287,000 – we are talking big, big numbers. The industry is in great shape at the moment and the Magic Millions brand is going from strength to strength.”
“We are delighted with the way things are rolling and there’s still plenty more horses to go through the ring with so many opportunities for buyers over the coming days,” Bowditch added.
