Futura Makes The Cut

The chosen ones

Capetown Noir

Capetown Noir declared in blinkers but has a 15 draw to beat

The final field for the R3,5 million Gr1 Vodacom Durban July to be run at Greyville next Saturday was announced on Tuesday. There were few genuine surprises with the major talking point being the inclusion of Brett Crawford’s progressive Cup Trial placer Futura.

The handsome son of Dynasty has been the subject of much debate amongst the punting public since his facile Betting World 1900 Consolation victory in mid-May that saw his connections sidestepping the Daily News for a tilt at the softer Cup Trial route into the July.

It is now well documented history that Futura was beaten into third off a slow pace in the Cup Trial and there were no guarantees that he would be included. His 3 draw will be the cherry on the top for his connections

Another potential ‘marginal’ was Geoff Woodruff’s Rake’s Chestnut, a one time winner who sealed his entrance ticket when runner-up to Legislate in the Daily News. He will have only the fifth outing of his career when stepping out next Saturday in the hands of Anton Marcus.

Cape trainer Justin Snaith again pulled a rabbit out of the hat with a 1 draw for his Jet Master filly In The Fast Lane, but was less fortunate with Legislate who drew 14.

Good news for Piere Strydom fans will be the engagement of South Africa’s champion jockey to ride Halve The Deficit for Chris Van Niekerk and Sean Tarry, who bid for a winning hat-trick in the big one.

They could not have hoped for a better man to carry those dreams!

The Inspiring Story Of Dr Marianne Thomson

‘I am writing this as an older, small breeder and in our language, Markus, because this is our war. If I phoned you, I’d be overwhelmed by business jargon within a minute. What makes you so angry that you don’t care what you are doing to our shaky industry? How do you deal with this in your inner, quiet self?’
