First Crop Sires at Nationals

There is a strong group of young stallions represented by their first crop of yearlings at the 2014 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale. The following sires will have members of their first crop on offer at the 2014 NYS – Bankable, Great Britain, Just As Well, King’s Chapel, Noordhoek Flyer, Querari, Rock Of Rochelle, Visionaire and Warm White Night.

Remarkably, six of these ten sires mentioned were Grade/Group One winners.

The ill-fated BANKABLE was a tremendous racehorse who won four stakes races from 1200-2000m.
Runner up in the Gr1 Dubai Duty Free, Bankable won a total of 8 races and over GBP 1 million in prize money.
A son of Medicean (sire of leading young sire Dutch Art), Bankable is out of a daughter of champion sire Sadler’s Wells. His seven yearlings include a half-brother to the stakes winner Fox Hunt, a colt out of the smart racemare Harem’s Secret, and a filly whose dam is an own sister to G1 winner Stratos.

Few sires have strong pedigrees than does former Al Quoz Sprint winner GREAT BRITAIN. By world leading sire Green Desert, Great Britain is a full-brother to G1 winning miler and champion sire Cape Cross. He is also closely related to another top-class sire Iffraaj, and is out of champion racemare Park Appeal. Great Britain has just two lots on sale – a half-brother to top filly Sunsational, and a half-sister to G2 winner My Sanctuary as well as impressive recent winner The Royal Rumba.

JUST AS WELL  is a Grade One winning son of the great sire A P Indy, who earned nearly $1 million in prize money. Runner up in the Gr1 Arlington Million, Just As Well is a half-brother to champion filly Rainbow View – the pair both produced by Nureyev’s Gr1 winning daughter, No Matter What. Just As Well’s five lots include a colt bred on very similar lines to Group One winner Golden Opinion, as well as a colt from the family of champion sire Fort Wood.

Classic winning KING’S CHAPEL was an outstanding racehorse. He was Horse Of The Year at three, and was a multiple Gr1 winner in New Zealand. King’s Chapel’s 10 victories included the NZ 2000 Guineas, and he has done well at stud from limited opportunities in New Zealand.  He has four yearlings on sale, including a colt out of Gr3 winner Lee Danzig, and a half-brother to Emerald Cup winner Meadow Magic.

NOORDHOEK FLYER was a top-class performer, who won both the Gr1 Cape Guineas and the Gr2 KRA Guineas. He is by exceptional sire Pivotal, whose offspring include over 20 Group/ Grade One winners. Out of a mare by champion sire Kris, Noordhoek Flyer is from the same family as champion sire Volksraad. Himself a former NYS graduate, Noordhoek Flyer has 10 lots on sale, including a colt out of champion Monyela, a half-sister to promising filly Love Vivien, and a half-brother to Nursery winner Empress Crown.

QUERARI is one of the best performed sons of leading sire Oasis Dream currently at stud in South Africa. A multiple stakes winner, the well bred Querari scored his biggest win in the G1 Premio Presidente Republica. He has 8 lots on sale, including a filly out of highly successful broodmare Dacha, a filly out of stakes winner Dancing Penny and a filly from the same family as Queen’s Plate winner Crimson Waves.

ROCK OF ROCHELLE shares his sire, Rock Of Gibraltar, with boom young sire Seventh Rock. A G3 winning sprinter, Rock Of Rochelle is from an outstanding family, whose members include outstanding sires Dynaformer and Brian’s Time. He has 3 lots on sale, including a filly out of smart racemare Rhinestone, and a colt out of the smart stakes winner Country Girl.

The exceptional US Grade One winner VISIONAIRE made a smart start with a small crop of 2yos representing him in the USA last year. Already a stakes sire, Visionaire was an outstanding winner of the Gr1 King’s Bishop Stakes and hails from the pre-potent Gone West male line. His 20 strong draft includes a colt out of top-class racemare Sweet Virginia, a half-brother to the exported Gr1 SA Classic winner Love Struck, and a filly out of Gr3 winning mare Spring Garland.

Another outstanding sprinter who hails from the Gone West male line is fellow first crop sire WARM WHITE NIGHT. Another former NYS graduate, Warm White Night won seven times during his career and earned over R1 million in prize money. A multiple Gr1 winner, he is a half-brother to champion Highland Night. Warm White Night has four lots on offer, including a half-brother to Gr2 winner Mercury Chief, and a very close relative of Gr1 winner Fair Maiden.
