Now that the acceptances for the big races on “Super Saturday” (Greyville Racecourse, 30 July 2011) have been finalized, the countdown to the finale of the 2011 Charity Turf Challenge has begun!
As reported, for the first time in the competition a second and third prize will be awarded and the prize fund pay-out is as follows:
* First Prize: R100 000 which includes R85 000 CASH plus a R10 000 Shopping Voucher from The Mattress King and a R5 000 Betting Voucher from River Palace Bets.
* Second Prize: R20 000 which includes R17 000 CASH and a R3 000 Betting Voucher from River Palace Bets.
* Third Prize: R10 000 which includes R8 000 CASH and R2 000 Betting Voucher from River Palace Bets.
The current leader, D Muthasamy, is on 182 points and relies on three horses to keep him in contention. In the most optimistic scenario, should Dancewiththedevil and Il Saggiatore finish in the top two places in the Gr.1 Champion’s Cup and Beach Beauty wins the Gr.2 Gold Bracelet, D Muthasamy, will bag a further 48 points taking his grand total to 230. But, without a Gr.1 Canon Gold Cup runner and, therefore, the chance to earn the last of the bonus points on offer, the leader looks a tad vulnerable!
However, the likes of joint fifth-placed Santhiran Reddy, seventh-placed Pilsudski and joint tenth-placed lurkers on 167 points, Macgyver and D Baijnath, have some serious ammunition on the big day including the probable favourite in the Gr.1 Canon Gold Cup, Ilsanpietro. However, if the popular horses fail to deliver on the day, it is not impossible for a winner to emerge from further back on the leader board so hold on for a nail biting finish to the competition! A sample of entries of possible contenders is listed below with known runners in the feature races highlighted.
During the course of “Super Saturday”, the organizers will attempt to update Tellytrack with changes to the leader board as and when they occur.
