February Final Flourish

Today in Singapore

Order Of The Sun wins in Singapore

Order Of The Sun looks fit to lead in Race 8, but by how much?

The last meeting of the shortest month of the year and hopefully we can find some winners to end February on a high.

It won’t be easy with some very tough races for punters although there does look some solid each-way options throughout including GET GOING dropping in grade in race 4 and the maiden BIMALA looking ready to break his duck in race 7 on the 10 race card.

But the most interesting race is oddly the one with the smallest field – only seven runners in fact – in the BM89 event over 1800m (race 8).
What we do know is that ORDER OF THE SUN will lead and given what he showed last start, he might lead by a considerable margin.
What we don’t know is how quiet will Corey Brown ride the likely odds-on pop in TIME ODYSSEY.

frontad-singapore-airlines-cup_140x120So while it may get tense for those on the favourite, it should be exciting for those on the bolter or indeed those watching on with fascination on what will happen late in what should be a fascinating two-horse tactical battle.
Enjoy.

Race 4

Selections; 1 GET GOING – 4 MOLLY BROWNE – 7 ZENZERO – 3 HARDCORE ROCK
A competitive Class 5 over 1400m for the claiming riders and two horses – ZENZERO and HARDCORE ROCK – stand out after winning handsomely at their respective last starts. Since changing trainers to Brian Dean, ZENZERO has struck form and is now looking at a rare hat trick of Class 5 wins; with regular rider Zaki up he should get every chance. HARDCORE ROCK won easily in this grade last start with Oscar Chavez up, has 0.5kg less weight with 2kg claimer Zawari up but should race well again. Plenty of Class droppers though and GET GOING’s only win was over this distance in Australia but he has placed five times from seven attempts at this trip in Singapore – all in higher class; he looks well suited in this grade with good 3kg claimer Kif Toh on top. MOLY BROWNE sneaks into a suitable Class 5 race and she could be value. REMEMBER ME is rarely far away but yet to win, he was caught wide last start and should get a better run here with Troy See on top. PERCIUS only win was at this trip and he drops back to 1400m from two recent placings over a mile, he should be running on late.

1 GET GOING *** Only win was over this distance in Australia. Has placed five times from seven attempts at this trip in Singapore all in higher class. Looks well suited in this grade with good 3kg claimer on top. 6.00
2 GUILTLESS *** Also down in grade and has been running on over shorter so could improve. 12
3 HARDCORE ROCK *** Won easily in this grade last start with senior rider up. Has less weight with 2kg claimer. Should race well again. 5.00
4 MOLLY BROWNE *** Only win was at this trip. Recent form ordinary but better suited this class, surface and distance. Value. 14
5 REMEMBER ME *** Rarely far away but yet to win. Was caught wide last start and should get a better run here. 5.00
6 EVERTRUST * Not a mile away last start this trip but needs to show more. 33
7 ZENZERO *** Has won at this Class and distance at past two outings since changing trainers. Trying for a rare hat trick of Class 5 victories and has regular rider Zaki aboard. 5.00
8 NOVA GLORY * Yet to place in five outings. Tested. 33
9 PERCIUS ** Only win was at this trip and drops back from two recent placings over a mile. Should be running on late. 12
10 SING ENERGY * Has not shown up in 5 outings. 33
11 JOYOUS ** Still a maiden but has placed twice over this distance and could show up. 14
12 DASHING * Yet to place in six outings. 33
13 ZAC COMMAND ** Always a chance in these and will be running on late. Has won twice at this distance. 10

Race 5

Selections; 4 REAL HERO – 6 EASY EASY – 7 ZAC GALLANT – 1 SUPER BONUS
Another Class 5, this one over 1200m on the poly with a mediocre lot involved. REAL HERO got a long way back with the apprentice rider (questioned) but ran on strongly last start; he gets the rejuvenated Oscar Chavez and should be in the finish. EASY EASY battled away over this trip last start, he has won at this class and distance and can be handy throughout. RIO DE JANIERO is yet to win but has placed twice on the poly and can be handy throughout. ZAC GALLANT finds it hard to win and his only victories have been at 1000m, he has placed at 1200m and could show up. SUPER BONUS was pushed hard and faded last start over 1000m on poly, he goes best at 1100m on poly but has won on turf at this trip and could show up.

1 SUPER BONUS ** Pushed hard and faded last start over 1000m on poly. Goes best at 1100m on poly but has won on turf at this trip and could show up. 10
2 DRAGON GOLD * Twelve start Maiden who should improve back in trip. 20
3 BLACK BEAN ** Surprised over this trip two starts back and forward run expected. 20
4 REAL HERO *** Got a long way back but ran on strongly last start with jockey questioned. Gets senior rider and should be in the finish. 3.00
5 RIO DE JANEIRO ** Yet to win but has placed twice on the poly and can be handy throughout. 8.00
6 EASY EASY *** Battled away over this trip last start. Has won at this class and distance and can be handy throughout. 4.00
7 ZAC GALLANT *** Finds it hard to win and only victories have been at 1000m. Has placed at 1200m and could show up. 5.00
8 SECONDWAVE * Only win was on turf and recent form poor. 50
9 SO PERFECT ** Battles away and suited this class, surface and distance. Can be handy throughout. 10
10 LAM EDITION * 21 start Maiden. Was held up last start when resuming but improvement required. 25
11 RAINBOW STAR ** Form poor but trialled well recently. Could improve at odds. 33

.

Race 6

Selections; 1 MIGHTY WARRIOR – 2 CLUTHA LAD – 5 KINGS RYKER – 4 VERTICAL START
A KSC over 1600m on the polytrack with little between three of the eight runners. MIGHTY WARRIOR did not show up when resuming but has won twice at the journey. In saying that his four wins have been on turf but he did have excuses at his only poly run; with Vlad Duric up could make amends. KINGS RYKER has benefited from three Singapore outings; he won over this distance in Ireland and should race well from the good gate. CLUTHA LAD ran on nicely when freshened over 1100m last start, he is suited at this distance and will run on strongly. They are the main chances though VERTICAL START is rarely far away and suited this class and distance while IDYLLIC SCENERY has won in Class 4 over this distance and could make his presence felt. The others are not up to the class.

1 MIGHTY WARRIOR *** Did not show up when resuming. Has won twice at the journey but all wins have been on turf. Excuses at only Poly run. Watch for support. 5.00
2 CLUTHA LAD *** Ran on nicely when freshened over 1100m last start. Suited this distance and will run on strongly. 4.00
3 IDYLLIC SCENERY ** Recent form just fair but has won in Class 4 over his distance and could make his presence felt. 5.00
4 VERTICAL START *** Rarely far away and suited this class, track and distance. 5.00
5 KINGS RYKER *** Has benefited from three Singapore outings. Won over this distance in Ireland and should race well from the good gate. 3.00
6 LAKE HUKA ** Racing fairly in Class 4 but on trial at this distance. 20
7 SCHILTRON * Struggling of late. 25
8 CLERMONT CLUB * Better over longer and tested this class. 33

.

Race 7

Selections; 3 BIMALA – 6 DR N WING FIGHTERS – 1 RAVOUX – 2 HORAZ SAMOSIR
Yet another Class 5, the second of the day for the claiming riders and the normal collection on moderate performers. BIMALA is still a Maiden but placed this grade when resuming when blinkers were added. He had excuses on that occasion not to finish closer and CC Wong should have him handy throughout. DR N WING FIGHTERS placed this class last outing in the same race as BIMALA and Zawari should give him a good run from the inside gate. RAVOUX is usually suited in these and has won three times at the distance; Amirul will have him handy throughout. In a race of numerous chances HORAZ SAMOSIR, ADRENALINE, SUVARNABHUMI and ROAN RANGER could show up.

1 RAVOUX *** Suited this class, course and distance. Will be prominent throughout. 4.00
2 HORAZ SAMOSIR *** Only win was at this trip. Should get a good run throughout. 6.00
3 BIMALA *** Excuses last start not to finish closer to the winner when resuming with blinkers. Hard to beat. 5.00
4 JIMTOWN * Runs on but best form is over longer. 33
5 ADRENALINE *** Has been thereabouts of late with support and can win a race like this. 16
6 DR N WING FIGHTERS *** Placed this class last outing and suited this distance. Should get a good run from the gate. 4.00
7 ROAN RANGER ** Eleven start Maiden whose only placing is at this distance. Battles away and could show up. 20
8 SUVARNABHUMI ** Only win was at 1200m but has placed at this distance. Should get a good run throughout. 6.00
9 FAT FARRAND * Hasn’t won for a long-time and only Singapore win was on the polytrack. Tested. 33
10 YUE YUAN * Recent form poor and needs to improve, 33
11 BIG BANG KING * Needs to improve on recent efforts. 33
12 GREENBACK * Could run a cheeky race at long odds. 33

.

Race 8

Selections; 4 TIME ODYSSEY – 1 ORDER OF THE SUN – 6 SQUIRE OSBALDESTON – 2 VALBUENA
Often small fields over this trip can provide for interesting punting affairs with tactics playing a bigger part than most would think. Not this one though. On paper it looks like ORDER OF THE SUN leads and leads by a long way with TIME ODYSSEY stalking him throughout and hopefully passing him late to win. Only SQUIRE OSBALDESTON looks in good enough form to be battling on late to keep the pair and exotics honest. The biggest question might be can ORDER OF THE SUN hold out the bang-in-form TIME ODYSSEY and how quiet will Corey Brown sit on the likely odds-on favourite with CC Wong claiming 2kg out front? Forget the rest.

1 ORDER OF THE SUN *** Will give the pack something to chase and could pinch this given the quality of the field. 3.00
2 VALBUENA * Improved effort last start over 1400m but needs to back that up. 20
3 BRILLIANT DEAL * Disappointing last start but could keep Order of the Sun company if having a good day. 20
4 TIME ODYSSEY *** Won four form last five and has found a weak race to continue his progression. 1.60
5 MARTIN * Struggling but should improve in this company. 20
6 SQUIRE OSBALDESTON ** Competitive and solid form has him having a say in exotics. 7.00
7 FUJIN BRIGHT * Form reads badly but capable of a forward showing on his day with a lightweight. 20

.

Race 9

Selections; 1 PURE TACTICS – 3 KISS ME – 2 MEDIA CAPTAIN – 10 LET’S TALK NOW
An odd race with only two horses any hope on recent form but a couple of others to watch at odds. The two that pick themselves on form are PURE TACTICS and KISS ME. Obviously both are coming off good runs of form and no reason why they don’t figure heavily in this finish – perhaps one/two. PURE TACTICS is due and Oscar Chavez will be keen to turn some good runs – including a very close up placing last start – into a win and from gate 2 in this field, he gets his chance. KISS ME last start win was in KSD company but previously showed he is capable in Class 4 and Beasley from gate 3 looks a good combination. The improvers are MEDIA CAPTAIN who gets a senior hoop and blinkers and can turn around some poor recent form while LET’S TALK NOW could grow wings first-up after a poor run of form with good recent trials a pointer.

1 PURE TACTICS *** Freshened after close up placing and must go close with gate 2 a factor. 3.00
2 MEDIA CAPTAIN *** Coming off ordinary effort but improves lengths with senior hoop and upgrade to blinkers. 4.00
3 KISS ME *** Turned some solid form into a good win and pay to follow. 3.50
4 SKY ELEVEN * Back in trip after a poor run of form and easier to ignore. 33
5 NOVA STAR * First-up run a shocker and have to take on trust. 20
6 DREAMWEAVER ** Former Irish galloper who may be better suited over longer. Watch market. 12
7 BASTION * Needs to show more. 50
8 PERFECT CURIOSITY ** Resuming and showed enough last campaign to include in exotics first up. 12
9 BULLET ** Resuming after winning first-up in Class 5 this trip so could show up. 12
10 LET’S TALK NOW *** Resuming after a terrible run of form but recent trials good enough to suggest he has something to offer at odds. 12

.

Race 10

Selections; 1 ELUSIVE EMPEROR – 2 SAND BANK – 3 NORTH ATLANTIC ICE – 13 RED GENERAL
Another tough race to finish the weekends racing and the market will be a terrific guide on a few of the runners including two debut winners in RED GENERAL and OPTIMUS. Of the two, RED GENERAL won well enough in what looked a solid maiden field to follow and while this race has depth, he gets his chance from gate 2. But a couple of the higher rated horses that have enjoyed good first-up runs in ELUSIVE EMPEROR and SAND BANK appeal. Not much separates the pair but ELUSIVE EMPEROR has subsequently trialled well and happy to follow. Plenty of others to watch including NORTH ATLANTIC ICE first-up and MANGATOETOENUI with a blanket over the rest.

1 ELUSIVE EMPEROR *** Resumed with good effort and subsequently trialled very well. Big show. 4.00
2 SAND BANK *** Resumed with forward showing in similar affair. Can win. 5.00
3 NORTH ATLANTIC ICE *** Resuming and won in similar circumstances this time last year. Value. 12
4 SECRET LIBERTY ** Almost pinched one at odds last start and pay to follow each-way with gate 1 a bonus. 13
5 ANONYMOUS ** Wide gate a concern but in great form on the Poly and handles the turf. 8.00
6 DYLAN ** Always an sneaky each-way hope at value in races like this. 20
7 MANGATOETOENUI *** Ran on well last start and other to keep safe with a tongue-tie added. 12
8 SAVAGE STORM ** Won well enough in KSD company to follow. 12
9 BRIEFNESS ** Shown glimpses at three Singapore starts and should appreciate the turf with tongue-tie removed. 20
10 POWER LIN ** Never on the track last start and worth another look at long odds. 33
11 ZIPPY GENERAL ** Awkward draw a concern but run questioned last start and won similar affair two back. 20
12 OPTIMUS ** Won well with support on debut but struck a good field and wide gate doesn’t help. 12
13 RED GENERAL *** Won very well on debut and could get the favours from gate 2. 12
14 STAR STRIKE ** Improves on what was a solid Singapore debut. 20

The Inspiring Story Of Dr Marianne Thomson

‘I am writing this as an older, small breeder and in our language, Markus, because this is our war. If I phoned you, I’d be overwhelmed by business jargon within a minute. What makes you so angry that you don’t care what you are doing to our shaky industry? How do you deal with this in your inner, quiet self?’
